Treating AFib: Exploring Traditional and Pulsed Field Ablation
Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a common heart condition that disrupts the normal rhythm of your heartbeat. Cardiac ablation, a procedure that disrupts the abnormal electrical signals in the heart, has been the gold standard. Two types of cardiac ablations are available for treating AFib: Traditional and Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA).
How Cardiac Ablations Differ
Traditionally, cardiac ablation relies on extreme temperatures to destroy tissues that disrupt the faulty electrical signals of the heart. Unlike traditional ablation, PFA does not use extreme temperatures. Instead, PFA precisely targets the source of abnormal electrical signals using electrical pulses.
Finding the Right Approach
Both traditional ablation and PFA have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The approach will be tailored to the needs of the patient to help maximize our success as well as reducing the risk. To learn more about these treatment options, go to chistvincent.com.
