Infirmary Celebrates 100th TAVR Procedure
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 28, 2016) -- CHI St. Vincent recently performed its 100th Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which is an option for patients deemed high risk for traditional open-chest heart surgery.
TAVR allows the aortic valve to be replaced, and like open-heart surgery, TAVR produces results in improving patients’ quality of life and lifespan. Typically, TAVR recipients suffer from aortic stenosis, one of the most common and most serious valve disease problems.
CHI St. Vincent began offering the TAVR procedure in 2014 and recently hosted a reception honoring the 100-plus patients who have received the TAVR.
“We wanted to celebrate the physicians and medical team members who make this procedure possible, but most importantly, we wanted to celebrate the patients whose lives are forever changed by the TAVR,” said Amy Funderburk, market director of nursing, CHI St. Vincent Infirmary Heart Institute. “I am proud of the team we have here at CHI St. Vincent, who are working together to improve the lives of our patients.”
