Summer Heat Precautions with Dr. George Hutchison

CHI St. Vincent has seen an increase in patients over the last few days and the hot weather is to blame.

"We've been very busy," said Emergency Room Director Dr. George Hutchison.

He said Friday, there has been significant increase in patients over the last few days due to the extreme heat.

Doctors have been on the lookout for patients suffering from some type of heat illness.

"When you start hearing forecasts like we have recently, you start thinking ok that patient who comes in confused, elderly, on multiple medications, it may not be a stroke it may be a heat stroke," said Hutchison.

The emergency room is seeing all types of patients including seniors, construction workers and people who play outdoor sports.
